7 DIY Wedding Projects Brides Should Never Do

In the age of the digital era, anything you want to know can be found on the internet with just one click. Even how to plan your wedding is completely explained with photos and step-by-step process to the extent that you’ll get convinced to do-it-yourself (DIY) as well.

We know that weddings are one of the most expensive events imaginable and we know a lot more that you would rather spend your money on other important matters. In that case, DIY can help a lot if you want to save a significant amount and have a more personal touch on your preparations. However, there are advantages and disadvantages when you DIY your wedding.

You can get as crafty and creative as you can but trust us, there is more to that than you think. It is better to let the professional handle all the preparations and just enjoy yourself until the day of your wedding. Here are the things we think you should never try to do yourself when planning one of the most magical events of your life.

#7 Let your out-of-town guests stay in your home

We get it, you want to be with your friends and family on the weekend of your wedding and spend some time with them. However, that is not the best way to do it.  Even if you have a large, beautiful house that can host all of your guests, we still recommend you to let them stay in a hotel or other accommodations.

You would not want to deal with all the food preparations and stress of entertaining all of your guest days before your wedding. There are a lot of things that you still need to check and having a lot of people around you won’t help. Don’t add this unnecessary stress to your jampacked things-to-do and think for your wedding day. Your guests will understand why you prefer to have them hosted in a hotel anyway.

#6 DIY photography

Believe us when we say that your wedding day is one of those days that goes by quickly you won’t even remember everything that happened. That is why it is important to spend on professional photographers than do the photography on your own. You would not want to reminisce your special moments looking at blurry photos and low-quality takes. Hire the best photographers and videographers you know and let them capture every magical moment on your wedding day for you.

#5 Preparing the food

This is one thing that you should never ever do on your wedding day. Even if you only have less than 100 guests, cooking will tire you the most and not even a practical thing to do. You do not have the luxury of time to prepare for your wedding day, let alone the meal. This is not the day to show off your cooking skills to your family. Reserve that some other time during reunions or family gatherings but not on your wedding day.

#4 Cleaning your wedding dress

Your wedding dress holds a special place in your heart as it serves as a memoir on the day you said “I do” to the love of your life. That is why it is important to keep it clean and preserved right after your wedding day. However, you should not clean it yourself. There are invisible stains in your dress that cannot be removed through a simple laundry. Cleaning a wedding dress is more complicated than you think it is. Let the professionals handle it so you can have your wedding gown looking brand new without losing its elegant look and feels.

#3 DIY rehearsal dinner

If you want to have your rehearsal dinner at your home, don’t do it. Trust us when we say it will cost you more and it will be draining and tiring on your part than feeling fulfilled and accomplished. On the days before your wedding, do not tire yourself. Enjoy those days with fewer worries and have your rehearsal dinner on a local hotspot instead. That case, you would not have to prepare anything and just have fun with your guests. It’s more enjoyable for everyone while having a nice talk with good food and a cozy place.

#2 Baking your cake

Perhaps you are the best baker in town and you want to bake your cake to make it more personal but that is not the most practical way to do it. Wedding cakes are one-of-a-kind that needs a lot of thinking and an epitome of perfection, and that is not an easy job at all. Imagine baking your own, decorating it, buying the materials you needed, and transporting it on your wedding day sounds tiring already. The last few days before your wedding will be the busiest days for you and baking a cake is not one thing you can insert on your jampacked schedule. Leave it to the professionals and just spend your time on more important matters.

#1 Be the contact person on your wedding day

This is a big No-No. Hire a wedding planner if you must who will handle all the last minute preparations needed. You would not want to stress yourself with all the on the spot fires knowing that you still have to worry about your vow and other important things on your wedding day.

Find someone that you trust who can make sure that you stay calm and not bothered by your vendors. This person must make you feel relaxed and less stressed knowing that he or she can handle all the important things smoothly. You must be enjoying your wedding day and not stressing over things that can be handled by someone. Save yourself some beauty rest and just feel relaxed on the day of your wedding.

There are a lot of things that you can personally do for your wedding. You can even prepare everything if you want to make it more personal. We love that you want to be involved in all the preparations for this magical day but keeping yourself relaxed is more important above anything else. Your wedding day is a magical moment that you should enjoy and savor every moment and not worry about all the preparations instead.
